47 Edmonton officers, two Camrose officers and one Lakeshore officer will formally graduate as part of Recruit Training Class (RTC) 161 at City Hall at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Officers of RTC 161 come from diverse backgrounds, including law enforcement, social services, the trades, corrections, and the military. There are officers from far as Serbia, Singapore, India and the Ukraine.
“It never ceases to amaze me the wide variety of experiences and diversity of the recruitment classes,” says Staff Sergeant Travis Kerr, EPS Recruit Training Section. “They are all tenacious in wanting to bring their life experiences into their new roles.”
RTC 161 took the initiative to build positive interactions within the community, donating over 800 volunteer hours on their own time as part of their training. Those hours were spent supporting various EPS and Edmonton Police Foundation events including the; EPS Police Obstacle course hosted for the Sherwood Park Female Junior Hockey Team, the Polar Plunge in support of Special Olympics, and Operation Find Santa, where the class spent time with families needing support around Christmas.
This is one of the larger recruit classes, while EPS continues to expand class sizes to address the growing demand for officer presence.
With RTC 161’s academy training complete, the new constables now move into field development under the Community Policing Bureau. Afterwards, they will return for assessment and training to help maximize their potential.
For the fifth time, The Edmonton Police Service has been named one of Alberta’s Top Employers.
