For Immediate Release: 30-May-2024 @ 7:10 AM
MRU #: R24R009

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect responsible for two recent convenience store robberies.

On Friday, May 17, 2024, at approximately 1:55 a.m., a male suspect entered a convenience store in the area of 82 Street and 160 Avenue and asked an employee for cigarettes. When the store employee turned away, the suspect reportedly pulled out a machete and demanded cash. The employee turned over some cash and the suspect fled the store.

On Thursday, May 23, 2024, at approximately 3:00 a.m., police believe the same suspect entered a convenience store in the area of 97 Street and 176 Avenue. The suspect approached the till area, pulled out a machete and demanded cash from the till. The employee turned over cash and the suspect fled.

The suspect is described as being approximately 5’6” with a slender build, dark hair with no facial hair. He was wearing a red bandana around his neck, a light blue jacket over a dark blue shirt, dark pants with white stripes down the sides and light shoes. The suspect was reportedly wearing this clothing during both robberies.

“We are hopeful that someone will recognize the robbery suspect and report him to police,” says Acting Detective Bryce Ottenbreit of EPS Robbery Section. “These types of robberies are especially concerning when a weapon is involved as someone could have been seriously injured.”
