Man charged in armed robberies

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Robbery Section has charged a man in a string of armed robberies during which a shotgun was fired inside a bar.

On Apr. 25, 2024 at 9:50 p.m., a male suspect entered a liquor store in the area of 97 Avenue and 182 Street and pointed a handgun at an employee. The suspect demanded cash, then fled.

Approximately fifteen minutes later, the same suspect entered a convenience store at 84 Avenue and 182 Street. He again pointed a handgun at an employee, demanded cash, then fled.

Then, at midnight, in the area of 82 Avenue and 175 Street, the suspect entered a bar with a shotgun. After demanding cash from the bartender, the suspect fired the shotgun at the floor as he was leaving the bar, which was occupied by approximately 20 patrons. No one was injured by the shooting.

On Apr. 30, 2024, Devan Schotts, 39, was arrested for the three robberies and charged with 16 offences, including robbery with a firearm (x3), pointing a firearm (x3), discharging a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon (x2) and multiple other firearms offences.
