MRU #: 24R043

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Southeast Branch officers interrupted a commercial break and enter in progress earlier this week.

On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at approximately 4:47 a.m., Southeast Branch patrol officers were working proactively in the area of 67 Street and 25 Avenue SW when they observed a 2006 Ford F250 pull into a parking lot. The truck reportedly stopped in front of a convenience store where two masked suspects got out of the truck and approached the front door of the closed business and broke in. Officers witnessed this occur and apprehended the suspects. Further investigation revealed the truck they were driving was also stolen.

“This is a terrific example of some excellent proactive work conducted by our patrol officers,” says Acting Staff Sgt. Mike Fehr of EPS Southeast Division. “We’re grateful our officers were able to intervene before anything was stolen from the business.”

Roger Clifford Schmitz, 43, was charged with break and enter and commit, possession of break in instruments, disguised with intent and possess stolen property over $5,000. His next court date is scheduled for June 11, 2024.

David James Risto Stewart, 43, was charged with break and enter and commit, possession of break in instruments, disguised with intent, possess stolen property over $5,000 and possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to public. His next court date is scheduled for June 5, 2024.
