Police lay charge in recent homicide

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Homicide Section has charged a 31-year-old Edmonton man in relation to the death of a woman found deceased near the North Saskatchewan River last week.

On Dec. 30, 2024, at approximately 4:45 p.m., a female was found deceased on the riverbank east of the Quesnell Bridge near Whitemud Park.

An autopsy completed on Jan. 2, 2025, determined that Ashley Burke, 43 died as a result of homicide. Cause of death continues to be withheld at this time for investigative purposes.

On Jan. 3, 2025, Daniel Boothman, 31, was arrested and charged with second degree murder in relation to Burke’s death.

Boothman and Burke were known to one another, and Burke’s death is considered an intimate partner homicide.
