Supervisor Brady Felker, ECO Bronwyn Taylor, and ECO Tedd Benesch, were each presented with an Award of Merit by Chief McFee and Chief Innovation and Technology Officer Ron Anderson.
On August 21st, ECO Taylor answered a 911 call in which several people were screaming and speaking another language. Taylor immediately recognized that something was wrong and entered a call for dispatch. Shortly thereafter, Taylor was able to determine a three-year-old child had stopped breathing after the cord from a window blind became wrapped around her neck.
Taylor immediately conferenced in EMS, while Supervisor Felker monitored the call and provided direction for patrol members to respond because they were closer than EMS. ECO Tedd Benesch voiced that members respond Code 2.
Patrol members arrived three minutes prior to EMS and performed CPR on the child and got her breathing again. She was transported to the Stollery by EMS. The child survived and is alive today because of the efforts of all EPS members, both sworn and civilian.
Working as a team ECO Taylor, ECO Benesch, and Supervisor Felker determined what was happening, dispatched members, and correctly kept members responding to this life-threatening emergency where time was the paramount consideration. Patrol members arrived on scene and were able to provide life saving CPR prior to EMS arrival.
The actions of these Emergency Communications and Operations Management Branch (ECOMB) civilian members is worthy of recognition for their actions in helping to save the life of this child.
