The date was February 16, 2012. Elaine Arnold had one more intersection to go through on her morning commute before arriving at work.
She never made it.
Elaine was hit by a drunk driver.
“He apparently went speeding through the stop sign. He was going so fast he pushed me into the house across the street. That's what I was told.”
Elaine was struck so hard she doesn’t remember anything before or after the accident, but Constable Bradley Murk does. He was the first officer on scene.
“You could tell she was in grave danger,” Murk said, who immediately administered C spine support.
“I was dead on the scene. Actually, they brought me back,” said Elaine. Somehow, she beat the odds despite suffering internal decapitation and significant brain swelling. She was in a coma for months and the rehabilitation took years.
The accident created a ripple effect that has challenged Elaine and her family for more than a decade. However, she doesn’t see herself as a victim and has a message for those drivers who get behind the wheel while impaired.
