On Jan. 1, 2013, an adult female complainant was sexually assaulted by two males in a parked vehicle in the Clareview area. At the time, forensic analysis of DNA evidence collected from the assault was unsuccessful in identifying the suspects.
In April 2025, suspect DNA from one of the 2013 samples was flagged in a law enforcement DNA database, leading to the identification of one of the suspects. A second sample from the assault was retested with current DNA technology, leading to the identification of the second suspect.
On Sept. 4, 2025, a male suspect turned himself in to police and was charged with sexual assault. As this individual was a youth at the time of the offence, he cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

“We never stop investigating historical sexual assaults,” says Staff Sergeant Christa Laforce with the EPS Sexual Assault Section. “While investigations may, at times, be suspended when we have exhausted all investigative avenues, they are not forgotten. When new information becomes available or advances in forensic technology are made, we review these files and take the necessary steps to move them forward.”
