On Aug. 31, 2026, at approximately 2:50 a.m. West Branch patrol officers responded to a report of an assault near 174 Street and 77 Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an injured adult male lying on the sidewalk suffering from significant head injuries. EMS attended and transported the man to hospital for treatment. The male remains in hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators have since obtained surveillance footage that shows an altercation between the victim and two unidentified male suspects shortly before the assault occurred. They are asking members of the public to contact police immediately if they are aware of the suspects’ identities and locations.
The first male suspect has a slim build with ear-length dark hair. The suspect was wearing a black or grey hooded jacket with a reflective stripe across the back, similar to a construction vest, along with a white shirt, black pants, black shoes and white socks.
The second male suspect is wearing a black hoodie and black pants.
It is believed that the two individuals removed their jackets a short time later, as pictured in the black and white CCTV image below.

Police believe witnesses may have been in the area at the time of the assault and are asking anyone with information, dash camera footage, or surveillance video from the area between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Aug. 31, 2026, to come forward.
