On Mar. 1, 2026, at around 10:30 p.m. a Transit Peace Officer (TPO) and two EPS officers were conducting proactive patrol of Corona LRT Station when they observed a male openly consuming alcohol. When the male was approached, he pulled out a concealed knife and attempted to stab the responding officers. Thankfully, nobody was injured and the male was arrested.
Shortly after the arrest, EPS officers determined that the 33-year-old male was involved in a robbery of a central Edmonton liquor store in the area of 113 Street and Jasper Avenue approximately 30 minutes before the incident at Corona Station.
Morgan Banman, 33, is facing charges for attempted murder (x2), assaulting a peace officer with a weapon (x3), possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and robbery.
“While we are grateful that no officers or members of the public were injured, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers all levels of law enforcement face on a daily basis,” says Inspector Jon Morrison with the EPS’ Investigative Response Team. “This is also an example of how crime and disorder continue to impact all corners of our city; from the business that was robbed, to the LRT patrons who may have felt unsafe during their commutes, to the officers on proactive duty who were attacked with a weapon. This is why we must continue to have a proactive presence in public spaces.”
