Police lay charges in suspicious death deemed homicide

An autopsy is complete, and police have laid charges in a suspicious death that has now been deemed a homicide.

At approximately 2 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, police were called about a stabbing. When officers arrived at a residence in the area of 80 Street and 117 Avenue, they found a 19-year-old male in medical distress. Officers provided first aid until EMS arrived. Sadly, the male was declared deceased at the scene.

On Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office completed an autopsy and determined William Pratt, 19, died as a result of a stab wound, and the manner of death was homicide.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Homicide Section has since charged Jacob Soosay-Gauthier, 21, with second degree murder and attempted murder in relation to the assault of another 18-year-old male located at the residence. The victims and suspect were known to one another, and police are not looking for any additional suspects at this time.
