It was reported to police that on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at approximately 11:44 a.m. a white sedan was stolen in the area of 129 Avenue and 97 Street. Later that day, at approximately 7:45 p.m., a white sedan was involved in a hit-and-run collision in the area of 123 Avenue and 90 Street, where a cyclist was struck. The 59-year-old cyclist was treated and transported to hospital by EMS with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Minutes later, at approximately 8 p.m., the suspect driver of the sedan attacked a 40-year-old man in the area of 132 Avenue and 83 Street with an edged weapon. The injured male was stabbed several times before the suspect fled the scene in the same stolen vehicle. EMS treated and transported the injured male to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. Thankfully, he is now in stable condition.
Police were able to identify the vehicle and take the suspect into custody in the early morning hours of July 17, 2025.
Cody Slade Desjarlais, 32, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of stolen property, dangerous operation (x2), driving while prohibited, breach of release order, possess weapon dangerous to public, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, failing to stop after an accident and theft of a motor vehicle.
Desjarlais was recently released on bail July 4, 2025, stemming from an incident in October 2024 injury collision that involved two women and a child. Desjarlais was facing 27 charges before the courts, including impaired driving, prior to the July 2025 incident.
“This individual posed a serious and unpredictable threat to public safety,” says Acting Inspector Eric Stewart with the EPS’ Investigative Response Team. “Thanks to the swift action from our officers, we were able to arrest this suspect and assist the individuals he harmed. We remain hopeful that the justice system will hold this individual accountable for his offences.”
Desjarlais is currently in custody. None of the victims were known to each other or Desjarlais
