The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is releasing video footage of a suspect vehicle involved in the fatal collision that took the life of a 13-year-old male cyclist last year.

At approximately 4:05 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, Southeast Branch patrol officers were called to assist EMS regarding a hit-and-run collision involving a young cyclist and a vehicle at 48 Street and 34 Avenue. EMS treated the male on scene; however, he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

EPS Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) took over the investigation and determined the collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of 34 Avenue east of 48 Street. A suspect vehicle, which incurred damage to its front end and driver side, was also identified at the time as a blue 2017 Mazda 3 sedan. Stock images are included below.

“As we continue to investigate this tragic loss of life, we are once again appealing to the public with video footage,” says A/Sgt. Chris Deslaurier with MCIS. “While we are aware that significant time has passed, we have remained committed to ensuring that this incident is investigated to its fullest extent. We are hopeful that a member of the public will come forward with additional information about this vehicle or its driver, so we can provide some form of resolution to this young man’s family.”

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
