Police investigating fatal single-vehicle collision

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that took place in central Edmonton.

At approximately 7:45 a.m., on Aug. 19, 2025, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) and EMS responded to a collision in a parking lot in the area of 111 Avenue and 119 Street. It was reported to police that a Chevrolet Equinox was in the parking lot when it struck a tree.

The 86-year-old male driver was transported to hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. The 80-year-old female passenger was also transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police were not initially called to the collision.

Later that day, the 86-year-old male succumbed to his injuries in hospital. On August 21, the police were notified of the driver’s death and EPS Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) began investigating. A possible medical episode is thought to be a factor.
