For Immediate Release: 01-Nov-2026 @ 5:18 PM
MRU #: TR26044

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating a fatal collision that occurred on the Sherwood Park Freeway in Edmonton this morning.

Today at approximately 10 a.m., police were made aware of a collision on the Sherwood Park Freeway near 50 Street. It was reported that a 17-year-old male driving a Ford Ranger eastbound lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the westbound lanes and was struck by an oncoming Nissan. EMS attended, however the passenger in the Ford Ranger, also a 17-year-old-male, succumbed to his injuries on scene. No other injuries were reported to police, however the driver of the Ford Ranger and the driver of the Nissan and their passenger were transported to hospital for precautionary measures.

The EPS Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) is leading the investigation. Police believe speed and alcohol were not factors in the collision.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the loved ones of the young person who lost his life this morning,” says Sgt. Timothy Connell with the EPS’ Major Collision Investigations Section. “This tragic collision is a reminder of how winter road conditions can change quickly. We encourage all drivers to be mindful of these conditions and to look out for one another on our roadways.”

Anyone with any information about this or any other crime is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
