MRU #: TR25036

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating a fatal collision that occurred overnight.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, police were notified of a single vehicle collision on the southbound portion of Anthony Henday Drive near the highway 14 overpass, in the southeast quadrant of Edmonton. A Chevrolet Cruze reportedly struck a light standard and caught fire. Witnesses to the collision pulled the 23-year-old male driver from the vehicle and attempted lifesaving measures. Sadly, he died on scene.

Police subsequently received reports of a suspect vehicle that had been seen travelling north in the southbound lanes of the Henday, and was believed to have caused the collision. The suspect car, a Chevrolet Cavalier, was later intercepted by Strathcona County RCMP traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Anthony Henday Drive just south of the Sherwood Park Freeway. The 23-year-old female driver was arrested and is facing charges of dangerous driving causing death and impaired driving.

EPS Major Collisions Investigations Section (MCIS) is investigating the collision.

Investigators are asking anyone with dash camera footage of this collision or the events leading up to it to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
