The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has confirmed 12 shooting occurrences during the month of January 2026, compared to nine last year.

A total of eight shootings are believed to have been targeted (do not appear random in nature) with four resulting in injury.

Of the 12 occurrences, nine had the potential for innocent bystanders to be harmed. The majority of the shooting occurrences (67%) took place in the afternoon and evening hours from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Police have also seized 97 crime guns during the first month of the year, up from 57 firearms seized in January 2025.

“Police continue to be focused on removing crime guns from the streets of Edmonton. Several arrests have been made so far in 2026 in connection with firearm‑related investigations. The EPS continues to tackle gun crime from every angle, with the safety of the public at the forefront of our efforts,” says Staff Sergeant David Graham of the EPS Firearms Investigation Section.
