Use of forensics enables police to make arrest in jewelry theft

For Immediate Release: 20-May-2026 @ 7:33 AM
MRU #: 26R047

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) use of forensics assisted in identifying a suspect, leading to an arrest in a jewelry store theft.

On May 5, 2026, around 8:40 p.m., West Branch patrol officers responded to the report of a theft at a jewelry store in West Edmonton Mall. Reportedly a male suspect entered the store, tried on some jewelry, then fled with the items discharging pepper spray as he ran away.

The EPS Crime Scenes Investigation Section (CSIS) attended and processed the scene. Members obtained fingerprints and were able to match them to a suspect who was known to police. In doing so, it was also determined that he is suspect in several other jewelry thefts across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

“This result is something we are always working towards,” says Inspector Anna-Marie Sinclair, with the EPS Forensic Services Branch. “We are continually striving for investigative excellence, and when different areas within EPS work together we can realize that goal.”

Troy Jason Boss, 42, faces charges of theft over $5,000, fail to comply with probation order and breach condition of release order.

Anyone with any information about this or any other crime is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250
