“We are excited to be playing hockey with kids from the community and are looking forward to marking the 15th year of this exciting and competitive game,” says Const. Rhyce Cotterill, EPS Downtown Beats team member and event organizer.
The McCauley Cup was established in 2009, bringing police and inner-city youth together for a fun-filled hockey game that continues to create incredible and lasting experiences for every player.
This community event is supported by organizations including the Oilers Entertainment Group, McCauley Community League, and partners such as the Edmonton Police Foundation, United Cycle, Sports Central, Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign and Arctic Chiller.
To ensure all kids have the chance to play, skates and hockey equipment are donated. To sweeten the competition, there are plenty of treats for parents and participants.
“The McCauley Cup has become a staple in our community and showcases how Canada’s game truly brings us all together,” says EPS Chief Warren Driechel. “The meaningful relationships that are built on the ice between our police officers and the kids from the community last long after the last goal is scored.”
The 15th McCauley Cup will be held at the McCauley Rink located at 10750 - 96 Street. Puck drop is at 12:15 p.m.
