ASIRT investigating after officer-involved shooting in central Edmonton

On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., police were called to the area of 102 Avenue and 121 Street for reports of a domestic disturbance. It was reported to police that a male with multiple edged weapons was in an apartment building and was threatening others inside of a suite.

Police and Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) responded to the area and located a suspect matching the description. A confrontation occurred between the suspect male with edged weapons and another resident. One officer discharged a firearm.

EMS treated and transported the 42-year-old male to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No EPS officers or apartment residents were injured during this event.

The EPS submitted a 46.1 notification to the Director of Law Enforcement, who has since directed the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) to conduct an investigation into the incident.

As such, the EPS cannot provide any additional information at this time. All further media inquiries should be directed to ASIRT.
