Of the 16 reported shootings in October 2025, 12 were believed to be targeted and seven resulted in reported injuries. There were two deaths as a result of shooting occurrences last month.

“We are keenly aware of the uptick in shootings this year and have been working globally across the EPS on strategies to tackle this trend,” says Staff Sergeant David Graham, Firearms Investigation Section. “Recently, EPS undertook a coordinated suppression initiative involving multiple units, including the Firearms Investigation Unit, Investigative Response Teams, Gang Suppression Teams, the Organized Crime Intelligence Hub, ALERT, and the CBSA. This collaborative effort reflects our unified approach to addressing high-risk criminal activity and enhancing public safety.”

Police seized 81 firearms in October 2025 and 644 in 2025 so far, as compared to 695 at this time last year.
