The recruit officers will formally graduate as part of Recruit Training Class (RTC) 163 at Edmonton City Hall at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, with family, friends, colleagues, and community representatives in attendance.
The officers of RTC 163 come from all walks of life, their backgrounds vary, and they are coming from as far as England, India, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom.
During the course of training, RTC 163 built positive interactions with the community, donating more than 950 volunteer hours. They supported the Smile Cookie Campaign, Operation Sole, Horsepower for Hope, First Responders Rodeo, Teddy Bear Picnic, the EPS Half Marathon, and more.
With RTC 163’s training complete, the new constables move into field development under the Community Policing Bureau. Afterwards, they will return for assessment and training to help maximize their potential.
“Today’s graduating class reflects the future of policing – one that is more inclusive, representative, and responsive to the communities we serve”, says Staff Sergeant Michael Hickey, with the EPS Recruit and Selection Section. “Through targeted outreach, mentorship, and the removal of barriers, we are opening doors to a wide range of applicants. This success is about building a service that understands and reflects the diversity of our city. We are proud of welcome these new officers to the front lines of public safety.”
The EPS’ Recruitment and Selection Unit remains committed to fostering diversity among new recruits by implementing initiatives that help eliminate barriers to the application process. Programs such as the Recruit Mentoring Academy (RMA) and Run with Recruiters continue to support applicants through the application process. In addition, the team actively engaged with communities by hosting or participating in over 60 recruitment events so far in 2025, including presentations, information sessions, and specialized program activities.
For the fifth time, The Edmonton Police Service has been named one of Alberta’s Top Employers.
