Police looking for additional complainants after youth charged for throwing rocks at vehicles

For Immediate Release: 30-Jul-2025 @ 9:57 AM
MRU #: 25R065

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is looking for additional complainants after two youths were charged for throwing rocks at vehicles this past weekend.

On Friday, July 25, 2025, at approximately 4 p.m., police responded to the area of Grierson Hill and the 100 Street Funicular for reports of individuals throwing objects off a pedestrian bridge and into oncoming traffic. A 41-year-old male driver whose windshield was smashed, stopped and got out of their vehicle, and detained two youth until police arrived.

Upon police arrival, a 14-year-old male and a 13-year-old female were arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and mischief.

“The youths were charged given the extremely dangerous nature of throwing bricks and rocks at passing vehicles,” says Acting Staff Sergeant Bryan Langevin of EPS’s Downtown Branch. “We believe there may be witnesses or other vehicles that passed through the area that were also hit. If that’s the case, please come forward and let us know.”

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this or had their vehicle hit during this incident on Grierson Hill between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on July 25, 2025, to please contact them immediately.

Anyone with any information about this or any other crime is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250
