Former principal charged with sexual exploitation; seek additional complainants

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has charged a 51-year-old former junior high school principal with sexual exploitation.

In early 2025, it was reported to police that a female youth had been sexually assaulted by one of her public school teachers on a number of occasions between 2004 and 2008. The teacher went on to be employed as a principal at another school, within the same school board, after this time frame.

On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Jon Paul David Cooper, 51, was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation.

Cooper was released with conditions, including not to attend any public swimming area, school or school yard, playground, youth shelter or public library and to not seek or maintain any volunteer or employment position requiring authority over a person under the age of 16.

At this time, police believe there may be additional complainants. As such, the EPS is asking any additional complainants or anyone with any additional information regarding Jon Paul David Cooper to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
