For Immediate Release: 21-Jan-2026 @ 9:50 AM
MRU #: SA25R018-1

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has charged a 28-year-old male following a sexual assault in a shopping mall in late November.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has charged a 28-year-old male following a sexual assault in a shopping mall in late November.

On Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025, police responded to a reported sexual assault at West Edmonton Mall. It was reported to police that a woman was riding an escalator, when a man approached her from behind and intentionally squirted an unknown substance resembling semen onto her back and buttocks.

Through investigation, police learned the male followed and approached approximately seven women that day in a similar way, between the hours of 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., without their knowledge. Police published a news release on Dec. 17, 2025, informing the public and seeking additional complaints.

On Thursday, Jan. 14, 2026, Jensen Jeffery, 28, was arrested and charged with three counts of sexual assault.

Jeffery was released with conditions, including not to attend shopping malls of any kind, not be in possession of weapons of any kind, and remain within Alberta unless written permission from the courts is granted.

Investigators also determined similar incidents occurred on:

  • Nov. 4, 2025, at Home Sense (326 Mayfield Common)
  • Nov. 8, 2025, at Costco (7259 Winterburn Road)

Police have reason to believe there may be additional locations and dates where similar incidents may have occurred.

“This behaviour is unacceptable. Whether the substance is real or an imitation does not change the seriousness of what occurred,” says Staff Sergeant Christa Laforce with the EPS Sexual Assault Section. “Acts intended to sexually violate, humiliate, or degrade another person will be treated as sexual assault.”

“This investigation progressed through the diligent work of investigators, and with the support of the community,” adds Laforce. “We are grateful to those who came forward and assisted police.”

Police are asking anyone who may have been approached or targeted in a similar way to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
