On Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, at approximately 3 a.m., police responded to reports of a weapons complaint outside of a restaurant in the area of 85 Avenue and Gateway Boulevard. It was reported that a group of individuals were fighting, and shots were fired by a male suspect. As a result, one adult female and three adult males were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries by EMS. Thankfully, all of these individuals have since been released from hospital.
Later in the same day, police were able to locate and arrest the male suspect outside of a residence in the area of Winterburn Road and Yellowhead Trail at around 9:30 p.m. Upon completing a search, police located the firearm that was believed to be used in the reported incident.
The 18-year-old suspect, identified as Phoenix Papin, has since been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, pointing a firearm, assault with a weapon and aggravated assault.
“Police officers from patrol and the Investigative Response Team were able to collaborate with other units to quickly investigate and successfully arrest the male suspect less than 24 hours after the incident was reported,” says Det. James Robbins with the EPS Investigations Branch. “We were able to quickly remove this firearm off the streets and are thankful that the individuals who were harmed by the accused have been released from medical care.”
Papin remains in custody at this time. His next court date is Nov. 26, 2025.
