Police seeking complainants, witnesses following two assaults

For Immediate Release: 11-Jun-2026 @ 12:30 PM
MRU #: 26R053

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is seeking complainants and witnesses following two random and unprovoked assaults last month in Old Strathcona.

It was reported to police that on May 11, 2026, at approximately 2:20 p.m. two adult males were dining in a McDonald’s restaurant in the area of 103 Street and 80 Avenue, when another male patron assaulted each of them without provocation before leaving on foot. The assault was reported the following day and police obtained video footage. Officers do not believe the complainants and suspect were known to one another.

Police were able to identify the suspect as Gene Jacobs, 61, and continue to seek his whereabouts. Officers have since issued warrants for his arrest for assault (x2) and breaching probation. A photo of Jacobs is included below.

Gene Jacobs, 61

Investigators are hoping to speak with the two complainants who were assaulted on May 11, 2026, as well as anyone who was in the restaurant at the time and witnessed the unprovoked attacks. Individuals with information about this incident are asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
