A 19-year-old man has been charged in relation to a homicide in central Edmonton over the weekend.

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Downtown Branch patrol officers responded to a weapons complaint in the area of 106 Avenue and 113 Street. Upon arrival, they located an injured male.

EMS responded, treated, and transported the male to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

On Monday, July 6, 2026, the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office completed an autopsy and determined that Alexander Edward Colin Reid, 38, died of gunshot wounds. The manner of death is homicide.

On July 7, 2026, police arrested and charged Hayden Halcrow, 19, with second degree murder in relation to Reid’s death. Halcrow is also facing numerous other firearms related charges and was wanted on a warrant for attempted murder for a shooting incident in May.

Homicide investigators continue to seek video footage from the area of 111 Street to 115 Street and 103 Avenue to 107 Avenue that may have captured a dark-coloured SUV fleeing the area between 6:30 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. on the morning of July 4. Additionally, detectives are seeking any footage specifically from the area of 113 Street between 105 Avenue and 106 Avenue between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m.

“We’re aware there was an incident just prior to Mr. Reid’s death during which a firearm was handled recklessly in a crowd of people,” says Detective Michael Walkom with Homicide Section. “If anyone witnessed or has video footage of this behaviour, we are asking them to please contact us as soon as possible.”

Any witnesses, drivers or businesses with video footage related to this incident are asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile device. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
