Police investigating fatal collision on Wayne Gretzky Drive

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating a fatal collision that occurred earlier today in southeast Edmonton.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., Thursday, May 21, 2026, Southeast Branch patrol officers were called to the report of a collision involving two vehicles in the area of 106 Avenue and Wayne Gretzky Drive.  It was reported to police that a 2007 Ford F550 was travelling southbound on the freeway, when the male driver pulled over in the neutral space between the 106 Avenue off ramp lane and the remaining southbound lanes and walked to the back of his vehicle. While he was behind his truck, a 2025 Ford F350 that was also travelling southbound on Wayne Gretzky Drive struck the driver.

EMS responded, and the 41-year-old male driver of the Ford F550 was pronounced deceased on scene. The 32-year-old male driver of the Ford F350 remained on scene and did not report any injuries.

EPS Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) continues to investigate. Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in this collision.
