The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating a fatal collision that claimed the life of a child in northeast Edmonton.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026, a 4-year-old girl was walking through a parking lot with her mother in the area of 66 Street and 170 Avenue when she broke free from her mother, ran onto 66 Street, and was struck by a Jeep. Bystanders immediately began lifesaving measures, and EMS treated and transported the child to the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.

The 23-year-old female operator of the Jeep remained on scene. Neither speed nor impairment are factors in the collision.

The EPS Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) is investigating the collision. EPS Crime and Trauma-Informed Support Services are being offered to everyone involved in this tragic event.
