ASIRT investigating officer involved shooting in west Edmonton

For Immediate Release: 13-Sep-2026 @ 10:10 PM
MRU #: AR26006

At approximately 9:59 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) responded to a reported shooting at a residence in the area of Donsdale Drive and 45 Avenue. It was reported that a male with a firearm had entered the home and shot a woman and infant inside.

Upon arrival, officers were met by witnesses and the injured parties and immediately began establishing containment of the residence. During this time, the adult male suspect opened the front door with a firearm in his possession. Officers issued verbal direction to the man; however, he did not comply. Three officers then discharged their firearms.

Following the arrival of the EPS Tactical and Canine Units, the man was eventually taken into custody. The EPS Tactical Emergency Medical Support team then attempted life-saving measures; however, the 36-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

EMS also responded, treated and transported the injured parties, two adult females and an infant, to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No EPS officers were injured during this incident.

The EPS submitted a 43.2 notification to the CEO of the Police Review Commission, who has directed the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) to conduct an investigation into the incident.

As such, the EPS cannot provide any additional information at this time. All further media inquiries should be directed to ASIRT.
