Police investigating fatal collision in southeast Edmonton

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that took place in southeast Edmonton early this morning.

At approximately 12:10 a.m. on July 9, 2026, Southeast Branch patrol officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of 50 Street and 23 Avenue. It was reported to police that a 2026 Hyundai Kona was travelling westbound on 23 Avenue when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing 23 Avenue at 50 Street in a crosswalk against the light.

EMS responded; however, the 69-year-old female pedestrian succumbed to her injuries on scene. The 17-year-old male driver and three passengers remained on scene and did not report any injuries at the time.

The EPS Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) has taken over the investigation and is seeking witnesses or dashcam footage from anyone traveling in the area at the time.

Witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage related to this collision are asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.

Impairment is not believed to be a factor in this collision.
