Homicide detectives investigating death following a residential house fire

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating a suspicious death that took place following a house fire in the Montrose neighbourhood yesterday.

On Sunday, Aug. 31, 2025, at approximately 5:40 p.m., EPS Northeast Branch officers responded to a call from Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) seeking assistance. EFRS were responding to a residential house fire in the area of 59 Street and 119 Avenue when they located a deceased individual inside the home.

Investigators continue to work to identify the individual and Homicide Section has since taken over the investigation. An autopsy has yet to be scheduled. No arrests have been made in relation to this incident.

Detectives are looking to speak with a resident who captured a video of the fire that has been shared on a local public social media account. A screenshot of the video is included below.
