Police seeking witnesses in possible shooting

For Immediate Release: 17-Jul-2026 @ 11:00 AM
MRU #: 26R063

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) are seeking witnesses in relation to a possible shooting that took place in the River Valley in late May.

At approximately 10:35 p.m., Monday, May 25, 2026, Southwest Branch patrol officers responded to Queen Elizabeth Park after receiving a report of an injured male.

With the assistance of Air1, police eventually located a male suffering from a gunshot wound on the riverbank near the south end of the Walterdale Bridge.

EMS responded, treated and transported the male to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

Investigators are now looking to speak with anyone who was in Queen Elizabeth Park that evening and may have information on how the man was injured.

Queen Elizabeth Park

“Given the time of year and longer daylight hours, we’re hopeful that Edmontonians enjoying Queen Elizabeth Park that day may recall seeing an injured male or overhearing an altercation,” says Detective Daniel Van Den Berg with the EPS Investigative Response Team. “If you believe you may have witnessed suspicious activity on the evening of May 25 in the park, we encourage you to contact police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or by dialing #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
