At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, police were notified of a single vehicle collision on the southbound portion of Anthony Henday Drive near the highway 14 overpass, in the southeast quadrant of Edmonton. A Chevrolet Cruze reportedly struck a light standard and caught fire. Witnesses to the collision pulled the 23-year-old male driver from the vehicle and attempted lifesaving measures. Sadly, he died on scene.
Police subsequently received reports of a Chevrolet Cavalier that had been seen travelling north in the southbound lanes of the Henday, and was believed to have caused the collision. EPS issued a news release about this incident on August 9,2025.
“This was an incredibly distressing and heartbreaking incident. A young man lost his life in a sudden and tragic way. Our officers now believe others may have witnessed the events leading up to and after this collision. We’re urging anyone who saw what happened or has dashcam footage to please come forward,” says Acting Staff Sergeant Duane Bateman from the Major Collisions Investigations Section (MCIS). “Even the smallest detail could help us piece together the full picture of that night.”
MCIS is investigating the collision and is asking anyone with dash camera footage of collisions involving this suspect Chevrolet Cavalier vehicle to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
