Autopsy confirms 38-year-old man's death a homicide

The autopsy of a man found injured in the Castle Downs neighbourhood confirms he died of gunshot wounds and his death is being investigated as a homicide.

On Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, Edmonton Police Service (EPS) officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of 109 Street and 166 Ave. Upon arrival, they found Alinur Mohamed Mussa, 38, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital where he was later declared deceased.

Anyone with dashcam or doorbell camera footage from the area, and west towards Castle Downs Road between 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2026, to is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
