Police seek assistance locating man wanted in 2024 fatal collision

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is seeking the public’s assistance locating a 41-year-old man wanted for the fatal collision that took the life of a 13-year-old cyclist in southeast Edmonton last year.

Police have issued Canada-wide warrants for Abraham Alfonso Chavez, 41, on charges of manslaughter, dangerous driving causing death, hit and run causing death and unlawfully causing bodily harm.

Chavez is described as a Hispanic male who stands 4’9” tall and weighs 150 lbs. He has black hair and a short black goatee.

Investigators continue to seek witnesses and tips related to the collision, and are asking anyone with information to come forward. Anyone who sees Chavez or has information about his whereabouts is also asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Background

At approximately 4:05 a.m. on May 29, 2024, police were called to assist EMS in a hit-and-run collision involving a young cyclist and a vehicle at 48 Street and 34 Avenue. EMS treated the male youth on scene; however, he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

EPS Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) took over the investigation.

Police issued a media release about this fatal collision on May 29, 2024. Subsequently, a second media release was issued on Jul. 3, 2025, when police released video footage of the suspect vehicle, as well as a plea for additional tips from the public. On Aug. 8, 2025, police issued a third media release after the suspect vehicle was located thanks to tips from the public.
